Counselling therapy provides individuals with support, guidance, and strategies to address life's challenges, improve personal growth, mental health, wellness, education, and career goals.
It involves talking through your issues and concerns with a trained professionals who listens and works with individuals to evaluate solutions and/or coping mechanisms.
Confidentiality: What is shared in sessions is private, fostering a safe environment for open discussion.
Non-Judgmental Space: Sessions provide a supportive atmosphere where clients can express their thoughts and feelings without fear of criticism.
Goal-Oriented: Therapy often focuses on specific goals, such as managing stress, overcoming fears, or improving relationships.
What is involved in the therapeutic PROCESS?

Initial Assessment: The first stage involves an initial assessment where the counsellor the client gives or the therapist gathers information about the client’s background, current issues, and goals for therapy. This often involves discussing the client’s history, family background, previous experiences with therapy, however, it is the client who will intimately have choice over what to bring and discuss the first few sessions.
Purpose: To understand the client’s needs and establish a foundation for the therapy process.
Outcome: A tailored, yet flexible plan to reach the client’s specific objectives.

Establishing Rapport: Building a strong, trusting relationship between the therapist and client is crucial for effective results. During the initial sessions, creating a safe and comfortable environment where the client feels heard and understood is essential. If a client feels un comfortable or unsafe, they need to discuss this with the counsellor.
Purpose: To establish trust and comfort, allowing for open and honest communication.
Outcome: A positive therapeutic relationship that allows for growth and change.
- Goal Setting: Therapist and client work together to set specific, achievable goals which will guide sessions and provide a clear vision and direction for the work that being done.
Purpose: To identify what the client is working towards through therapy.
Outcome: A set of clear, measurable goals that will be the focus of the counselling process.
- Exploration and Intervention: The client develops awareness, and eventual management of thoughts, feelings, and behaviours, understanding the interrelated nature in depth. Various therapeutic techniques and interventions are used with the client to gain insight, develop coping strategies, and make positive changes.
Purpose: To allow the client understand their issues and develop strategies to address them.
Outcome: Increased self-awareness, improved coping mechanisms, and progress towards goals.
- Evaluation and Termination: Counsellor and client regularly evaluate the effectiveness of the sessions and the progress towards the goals. When necessary, goals may need to be reevaluated, even changed. Once the goals are met or the client feels ready, the counselling process is concluded.
Purpose: To review progress and determine if the client’s goals have been achieved.
Outcome: Successful completion of the process, with the client feeling empowered and better equipped to manage future challenges.
